Patriots WR Makes Surprise Drake Maye Reveal Ahead of 1st Start
There have been a lot of news reports coming out of New England lately. They haven't been all positive either but the best news to come out was that rookie quarterback Drake Maye will be taking over as the starter.
The Pats have dropped four games in a row and are looking to catch a spark to turn things around. With Maye slated to make his NFL debut on Sunday against the Houston Texans, receiver Kendrick Bourne made a joke that Maye is faster than him.
Patriots News: Kendrick Bourne Jokes That Drake Maye Is Faster Than Him
Bourne was speaking with reporters on Wednesday and said that the rookie quarterback may be quicker than him.
"I think (Drake Maye)‘s 40 might be faster than mine."
- Kendrick Bourne
Bourne was never known as a speedy threat, as he ran a 4.68 40-yard dash at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine. That was one of the slowest times of the 58 receivers there.
Maye didn't run a 40-yard dash at the combine or his Pro Day but he is known for his athleticism and mobility. In his collegiate career, Maye logged 1,209 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns.
Although Maye will look to be an effective passer, he may have to showcase that speed this season. The Patriots are second in the NFL in sacks allowed (19). They haven't been able to keep Jacoby Brissett upright and that may likely continue with Maye at the helm.
Regardless, it starts on Sunday as the Patriots are seven-point underdogs to the Houston Texans, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
