12 Patriots Who Could Have Their Number Retired After Tom Brady
By Ryan Bunton
9. Vince Wilfork
Wilfork, New England's first round pick in 2004, quickly became one of the premier nose tackles in the entire NFL. In his 11 years with the Patriots, he was a five-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler.
Wilfork was named to the New England Patriots All-2000s Team, 50th Anniversary Team, All-2010s Team, and All-Dynasty Team. He was also honored with a (large) red coat when he was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2022. The Miami product won two Super Bowls, Super Bowl XXXIX over the Philadelphia Eagles and Super Bowl XLIX over the Seattle Seahawks.
In his Patriots career, Wilfork racked up 16 sacks, 517 tackles, and 37 tackles for loss. Even though Patriots fans were only blessed with three career interceptions, seeing Wilfork rumble with the ball at 6'2", 325 lbs. was a sight to behold.
Wilfork's No. 75 is currently worn by offensive guard Ryan Johnson.
8. Ty Law
A first-round pick of the Patriots in 1995, Ty Law racked up an illustrious career that culminated in his enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019.
Law was a key part of the Pats defense that helped guide New England to their first three Super Bowl titles, putting on some memorable performances. He had a 47-yard pick-six in Super Bowl XXXVI against the St. Louis Rams and picked off Peyton Manning three times in the 2003 AFC Championship Game.
Law holds the Patriots record for most interceptions with 36, including six pick-sixes, and he led the league in interceptions in both 1998 and 2005.
When he retired in 2009, Law had been named to two All-Pros and five Pro Bowl teams. He was a member of the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team, the New England Patriots All-1990s Team, the All-2000s Team, the 50th Anniversary Team, and the All-Dynasty Team. Law was also inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2014.
No. 24 is currently worn by corner Joshuah Bledsoe.
