10. Danny Jansen

Jansen was acquired by the Red Sox from the Toronto Blue Jays on July 27 for three minor leaguers. The 29-year-old spent the beginning of his career playing seven years north of the border.

Catcher Kyle Teel is waiting in the wings, and Boston would presumably prefer to keep Connor Wong (despite defensive concerns) over Jansen. That would likely render Jansen – an unrestricted free agent – as dispensable.

Wong hit .280/.333/.425 with 13 home runs and 52 RBI compared to Jansen's .205/.309/.349 with nine home runs and 24 RBI this season between both Toronto and Boston. Once joining the Red Sox, Jansen struggled to even break the Mendoza Line, hitting only .188/.323/.300 with three home runs and six RBI.

Teel, 22, is the 26th-ranked prospect by Baseball America and is expected to make his MLB debut in early 2025. He was Boston's first-round draft choice in the 2023 MLB Draft.

The acquisition of Jansen didn't make a ton of sense at the deadline, and it still doesn't make a ton of sense in retrospect. It would make even less sense for him to be a part of Craig Breslow's plan going forward.
