3 Bruins on Thin Ice Heading into the Playoffs
3. LW/RW James Van Riemsdyk
James Van Riemsdyk was one of the Bruins' better players during the first half of the regular season. After arriving in town on a one-year, $3 million contract, Van Riemsdyk proved that he still had juice in the tank by tallying 11 goals, 26 points, and 37 points with a plus-9 rating through his first 51 appearances.
Unfortunately, that's when the wheels fell off.
In the last 20 games, Van Riemsdyk has gone goalless with only one assist and a minus-2 rating. In fact, he hasn't registered a single point since March 4 and now heads into the playoffs on a 13-game point drought. Even if he's only viewed as a bottom-six forward at this stage of his career, that's not the type of production you want to see from anyone ahead of the playoffs.
JVR is also a pending UFA, meaning a strong playoff showing is crucial for his future job prospects. Whether he wants to continue playing in Boston or hopes to sign elsewhere in the offseason, he must turn his game around before it's too late.
