3 Celtics Playing Their Last Season in Boston This Year

Barring any career-best performances, don't expect to see these three Celtics in Boston beyond the 2023-24 NBA season.

3. Svi Mykhailiuk

The Celtics added to their bench towards the end of August by signing veteran forward Svi Mykhailiuk to a one-year contract. The 26-year-old was a second-round pick in 2018 and has played 252 games (54 starts) since then.

But even though this season is Mykhailiuk's first in Beantown, it doesn't mean it won't be his last.

First of all, Mykhailiuk isn't a 'long-term' sort of player. The former Kansas Jayhawk has played for six different teams before joining the Celtics, never spending more than two consecutive seasons with a franchise. He's also been involved in mid-season trades with three teams, indicating that he rarely ends a year in the same place he started.

Mykhailiuk just doesn't do anything special that makes him irreplaceable. He can knock down some shots (42.4 3P% in 2022-23) and eat forward minutes, but he's never going to flip the script or single-handedly win Boston any games.

Mykhailiuk needs the best season of his career if he hopes to stick around in Boston beyond the current season. Otherwise, the C's won't break a sweat replacing him in the offseason.
