3 Former Celtics Still Unemployed After 2 Months of Free Agency
The 2024-25 NBA season is nearing and Boston Celtics fans can't wait to see if the defending champions can hit the ground running. General manager Brad Stevens managed to retain the key pieces of last year's NBA Finals-winning roster, resulting in the Celtics heading into the preseason as FanDuel Sportsbook's +300 favorite to hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy again.
As the regular season approaches, it can always be fun to check in on how some former Celtics are doing. Although certain ex-roster members managed to find new homes this offseason, others are still looking for their next employer nearly two months after free agency.
With that in mind, here are three Celtics who are still available free agents.
1. Oshae Brissett, SF/PF
Oshae Brissett is one former Celtic who's looking for another opportunity to play.
The 26-year-old spent four seasons with the Toronto Raptors and Indiana Pacers before joining the C's on a one-year contract ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. Brissett played a backup role for the majority of the season, averaging 3.7 points on .444/.273/.602 splits while adding 2.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists across 55 appearances.
The former Syracuse product even suited up in 10 postseason contests. Even though most of the action he saw came in garbage time, the 15.2 points and 13.3 rebounds he averaged per 100 possessions had Brissett supporters wondering if he was ready for a bigger role.
Unfortunately, for him, it appears as if there just isn't that much interest around the league. The Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach reported last month that the Celtics were potentially interested in a Brissett reunion, however, those discussions clearly haven't gone anywhere.
Brissett is only in his mid-20s, so he can still have a lengthy career ahead of him. Only time will tell if someone's willing to give him the chance to prove it.
