3. Isaiah Thomas, PG

Even though he hasn't worn a Boston jersey in over seven years, Isaiah Thomas is still one of the more notable ex-Celtics available on the open market. The two-time All-Star revealed earlier this summer that he likely only has a few more years left in the tank, meaning now is the best time for him to attempt an NBA comeback.

Thomas, 35, only needed 2.5 seasons to become one of the most beloved players in Celtics history.

The former Washington guard played 179 games for the franchises between 2015 and 2017, averaging a whopping 24.7 points on .443/.368/.889 splits while adding 6.0 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. His 2016-17 performance was the best of his career as he finished fifth in NBA MVP voting while leading Boston to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance.

Unfortunately, Thomas hasn't come close to reaching those heights since then. He's spent time with eight different NBA franchises since the 2017 offseason and has even had to play in the G League at points. He most recently played six games for the Phoenix Suns last season, looking like a shell of his former self as he averaged just 1.3 points with a 30.0 FG% and .500 3P%.

Even though that showing was far from special, it was good enough to secure Thomas an upcoming tryout with the Sacramento Kings. Whether that opportunity leads to anything remains to be seen.

Having said that, it's clear that Thomas' best days have passed him by. While he's still beloved by his peers and fans, it's hard to imagine many NBA teams being convinced that he deserves a roster spot at this stage of his career.
