3 Most Disappointing Patriots Through the First Month of the Season
By Tyler Maher
3. Ezekiel Elliott
Speaking of disappointing free agent signings -- Ezekiel Elliott, come on down!
Similar to Stevenson, Elliott has been hurt by all the injuries and general incompetence of the offensive line. But then again, maybe signing an over-the-hill running back wasn't such a great idea in the first place.
Elliott had a nice game in Week 3 against the Jets with 80 rushing yards on 16 carries, but outside of that he's been pretty awful. In the other three games combined (all losses), he has just 18 carries for 58 yards, good for a putrid 3.2 yards per carry.
Then again, Zeke averaged only 3.8 yards per rush last year and he's not getting any younger, so that's not really too surprising.
The bigger issue is that he still hasn't found the end zone yet. Elliott was expected to be a goal-line threat after scoring double-digit touchdowns in three of the last four seasons, but he still doesn't have one yet. Granted, the Patriots haven't been down on the goal line very often, but Zeke hasn't been fulfilling a key part of his job description.
Fortunately he's only on a one-year contract, so at least we're not stuck with him like JuJu.
