3. Scour the Guard Market

There is one glaring weakness on the Patriots offensive line right now, and it's at right guard.

Mike Onwenu has been a legit disaster to begin the 2023 campaign. While he was sidelined in Week 1 after offseason ankle injury, there's still no excuses for how he's played since his return.

Onwenu has earned a dismal 44.7 overall grade from ProFootballFocus in the early going as he struggled in both pass and run blocking. His four penalties currenly are tied for first among offensive lineman as well, making him a liability to an offense that's already struggling.

We all saw the impact of the veteran's blunders this past against the Dallas Cowboys. The RG was flagged three times in just one quarter, and those penalties either helped lead to turnovers or negated big gains.

As a result, finding someone to take Onwenu's place is of the utmost importance. There's still a few talented guards on the free agent market right now in Andrew Norwell, Michael Schofield and Gabe Jackson.

Norwell's a former All-Pro selection who started 16 games for the Washington Commanders last year, Schofield is an eight-year vet who has Super Bowl experience, and Jackson didn't earn a single penalty over 667 snaps played last season.

At the very least, Onwenu needs some competition to either shape up or ship out.
