News has been breaking as of late with the start of a new NFL season right around the corner. Trades, extensions, and releases have been reported and the New England Patriots got in on the action Sunday. As they prepare for a new season under a new head coach, they just traded former starting quarterback Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a sixth-round pick.

It's quite the fall from grace for Jones, who was a star at Alabama and landed with the Patriots in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He even led them to the postseason as a rookie but things fell apart after that which led to this move.

With that move out of the way, the Patriots will turn their attention to the rest of the roster. Jerod Mayo will surely want to make more moves to bring an infusion of youth — and to get rid of some of the toxic vibes (which Jones had become). With that being the case, here are three players currently on the chopping block.

3. Deatrich Wise, DE

In no way does Deatrich Wise fall under the category of a bad player but the writing has been on the wall for him ever since New England selected Keion White in 2023. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound defensive end from Georgia Tech was added to eventually replace Wise.

There were rumors leading up to the deadline that Wise could be traded last year but he stuck around and had another respectable campaign. In all, he has 285 tackles and 29 sacks in seven seasons but he will be 30 this year and they can save more than $5 million by moving on.
