LB Oshane Ximines

Equally surprising was veteran Oshane Ximines' performance on Thursday night. The 27-year-old outside linebacker who spent the last five seasons with the Giants, is continuing to impress this summer. Rediscovering his 2022 form when he had one of the best seasons of his career, Ximines was disruptive against the Panthers offense, recording four tackles and a sack.

Ximines was a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and went under the radar for most of his pro career. That may change in Foxborough as head coach Jerod Mayo recently singled him out as someone who has shown massive improvement. He has highlighted his ability to contribute to special teams as well.

The former Old Dominion star had previously underlined how his skill set fits with DeMarcus Covington's defense. With his ability as a pass rusher, Ximines adds something to the defense the Patriots roster lacks, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Matthew Judon.

Christian Barmore, who will miss significant time due to injury, led the Patriots in sacks last season and Judon has been the best pass rusher on the team. If neither player is available in Week 1, Ximines could find himself with a role. He just needs to continue what he showed against the Panthers.
