3 Patriots Who Will Be Replaced on Day 2 of the NFL Draft

Matthew Judon, DE
When the star defensive end signed a four-year, $56 million deal with the Patriots back in 2021, it was under different circumstances. Bill Belichick was still around and the Patriots were trying to be competitive with the hopes of getting back into contention. One could argue that Matt Judon was the best player on those Patriots teams until he missed almost the entire season with a torn bicep in 2023.
Now, however, the organization is in a different stage. Under first-time head coach Jerod Mayo, the Patriots kickstarted a long rebuild.
Judon, who is about to turn 32 before the season starts, is still looking for his first Super Bowl and it's hard to see him achieve that in Foxborough. Plus, he is entering the final year of his contract. He should be a good trade candidate as it doesn't make too much sense for New England to give him a lucrative, long-term deal.
Instead, they should find his replacement in the Draft. With Josh Uche and Anfernee Jennings still there, and the Patriots having selected Keion White with their second-round pick last season, it may seem like New England has enough talent and depth at the EDGE. However, one can never have too many pass rushers and even if it means that he has to wait behind Judon and the rest of the veterans for a season, it makes sense for New England to target one on Day 2.
