3 Patriots Who Will Be Cut by the End of October
2. Tyquan Thornton, WR
Being a former second-round pick doesn't always guarantee that a player will pan out. Much to the Patriots' dismay, Tyquan Thornton is the perfect example of that fact.
Drafted 50th overall in 2022, Thornton continues to struggle to look like an NFL receiver. The former Baylor product has only registered 27 receiving yards on two catches through five games while his 5.4 yards per game put him on pace for a career-low of 92. Even worse is the fact that he hasn't made a single reception since Week 1.
Additionally, Thornton is carrying an 18.3 passer rating when targeted this season. For comparison, Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young currently holds the worst passer rating in the league with a mark of 48.6, emphasizing just how much of a black hole Thornton has been.
It's just hard to imagine what anyone sees in Thornton at this point. He's hardly ever healthy and when he is, he fails to move the needle in the passing game. It's easy to imagine the Patriots finding similar production on the practice squad or through free agency.
Either way, another poor performance from Thornton could spell the end of his New England tenure.
