3 Players the Patriots Must Target With the No. 34 Pick
Patriots Should Draft Oklahoma OT Tyler Guyton at No. 34
With Trent Brown and Mike Onwenu hitting the open market this month, the Patriots are in dire need of some offensive tackle depth. The good news is that Oklahoma's Tyler Guyton might be available once the No. 34 selection rolls around.
Guyton is a monster of a man, standing 6-foot-7 while weighing 327 pounds. He's an explosive presence with solid footwork, helping him to be in the right place at the right time to not only protect his quarterback but also to open lanes in the run game. Although he doesn't have the longest reach, Guyton's talents and nonstop motor more than make up for any shortcomings.
Even though the 2023 campaign wasn't his best, Guyton still only allowed 12 total pressures (9 hurries, 3 QB hits) across 355 pass-block snaps en route to earning an All-Big 12 honorable mention. It's also worth noting that he only allowed two sacks across the last two college football seasons, which should be attractive to a New England team that surrendered the ninth-most sacks last year.
At the end of the day, the Patriots need the type of protection Guyton provides if they want to protect their future QB. With the right development and coaching, I wouldn't be shocked if the 22-year-old became a mainstay on New England's offensive lines for the next decade.
Who the Patriots choose to draft with No. 34 will remain a mystery until the draft day. Their No. 3 overall pick is equally uncertain. On FanDuel Sportsbook, Jayden Daniels (+130) and Drake Maye (+170) are neck and neck to be the Patriots' selection.
