3 Realistic Brandon Aiyuk Trade Packages the Patriots Can Offer the 49ers
By Ryan Bunton
1. Kendrick Bourne + 2025 2nd Round Pick
As things currently stand, Kendrick Bourne appears to be the most likely rostered Patriot to be moved to acquire Aiyuk. Per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, who has been on the frontlines of the reporting on the Aiyuk saga, "The Patriots are expected to include former 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne as part of the deal if Aiyuk were to accept New England’s offer."
Bourne spent the first four seasons of his career with the 49ers after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Washington. Bourne left San Francisco to sign with New England in March 2021 on a three-year, $15 million deal.
In 41 games with the Patriots, Bourne has caught 127 passes for 1,640 yards and 10 scores. The 29-year-old saw his 2023 campaign cut short when he suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins. Prior to his injury, Bourne was unquestionably New England's most productive receiver. The 49ers would be gambling on him to return from injury to his prior form in 2024.
This past offseason, he was rewarded by the Patriots with a three-year, $33 million contract extension just before he was slated to hit unrestricted free agency.
Acquiring Bourne would allow the 49ers to seamlessly replace the departing Aiyuk's spot on San Francisco's depth chart at receiver, which makes him an attractive trade piece. Add in Bourne's familiarity with the Niners' offense, and he quickly headlines this list.
In this hypothetical, the 2nd-rounder would be the main chip, with Bourne serving as the sweetener to close the deal.
