3 Red Sox on the Naughty List (& 2 on the Nice List) This Christmas
Nice List #2: Rafael Devers
Chances are the Red Sox's 2023 campaign would've ended much worse if it wasn't for Rafael Devers.
The 27-year-old third baseman, once again, proved to be one of the best players in the sport today. Devers led all Boston players with 33 homers, 100 RBIs, and a 3.5 WAR while tallying a .500 slugging percentage — the fourth time in five seasons he's done so. His efforts earned him his second Silver Slugger award since 2021 on top of his third straight top-20 AL MVP finish (18th).
What's even more impressive is that Devers has accomplished all of the above and he's still only 27 years old. His monster 10-year, $313.5 million extension does kick in at the start of the 2024 season but he'll more than live up to the contract's value if he continues at his current output.
Devers is a special player, so hopefully Breslow & Co. surround him with a proper supporting cast sooner than later. Who knows? Maybe that's exactly what Santa will leave under his Christmas tree Saturday night.
