3 Worst Patriots From Embarrassing Week 3 Loss to Jets
By Ryan Bunton
2. Jahlani Tavai
Jahlani Tavai was dealt the difficult task of filling in for injured linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley – who has been one of the team's best defensive players over the past few seasons. Bentley suffered a torn pectoral muscle in New England's Week 2 loss and has been ruled out for the year.
Tavai was flagged for an (arguably soft) unnecessary roughness call in the first quarter that helped the Jets move down the field on an eight-play, 73-yard drive. That drive ultimately extended New York's lead to 14-0 and put a very quick end to any idea that the Patriots could win the game.
Jets tight end Tyler Conklin was also running circles around Tavai when the linebacker was in coverage. Conklin finished Thursday as the Jets' top receiver, catching five passes for 93 yards.
It is going to be tough sledding for the Patriots as they try to fill the massive shoes left by Bentley's injury. Tavai and Raekwon McMillan are going to have their hands full and will need to put in better performances than what they produced on Thursday night.
