4 Patriots Already on Thin Ice In Training Camp
3. Chukwuma Okorafor, OT
The Patriots have been rotating their offensive line pieces throughout training camp. Offseason addition Chukwuma Okorafor has seen his role change a bit in the short few days, seeing reps as a right tackle during the first two practices before being moved to the left side on Friday.
But while other O-line members are stepping up, Okorafor is letting his latest opportunity slip through his grasp. The ex-Western Michigan blocker surrendered a sack to Matthew Judon on Friday, which isn't going to earn him any points in the coaches' books.
Although one mistake isn't the end of the world, it isn't exactly like Okorafor has established much goodwill. Not only has he only been with the organization for four months, but it isn't as if his recent performances make him a roster lock. He tallied a 60.7 pass block grade across 272 passing downs last season, per Pro Football Focus, allowing 11 pressures while being called for eight penalties.
Whether it's Brissett or Maye under center in Week 1, the Patriots need an offensive line that can protect their quarterback. Based on his training camp showing thus far, it's hard to imagine Okorafor being a positive asset.
