4 Patriots Already on Thin Ice In Training Camp
4. Vederian Lowe, OT
It might be time to finally say goodbye to Vederian Lowe.
The third-year blocker's outlook with the team was already up in the air following a putrid 2023 performance. Lowe was the human version of Swiss cheese in his first real taste of NFL action as he allowed 29 hurries, six sacks, and three QB hits across 290 passing downs. Although last season's quarterbacks didn't do much to help the offense, the 25-year-old's lackluster blocking was also a part of the struggles.
To put things into perspective, Lowe's 36.0 PFF pass block grade was the worst among 81 eligible tackles last season.
But after failing to impress during the early portions of the offseason, Lowe has failed to up his play in training camp. Patriots insider Matt Dolloff reported that Lowe surrendered two pressures during Thursday's 11-on-11 drills and was a big part of why the O-line couldn't get anything going.
Head coach Jerod Mayo using Lowe as a starter following a poor second year already seemed like a bad idea and now his training camp showings are cementing that fact. Barring an incredible turnaround in the upcoming weeks, it's easy to imagine Lowe falling lower down the pecking order.
