1. Kyle Teel

The most big league-ready of the "Big Three", Teel was the 14th overall pick by the Red Sox last summer after a decorated career at the University of Virginia. Teel was tabbed as the 2023 ACC Player of the Year, won the Buster Posey Award as the best collegiate catcher, and was named a consensus All-American.

Like Mayer, Teel has played all of his 2024 baseball with Portland. The 22-year-old has gotten plenty of reps this season in 335 plate appearances. Teel is hitting .295/.385/.448 with nine home runs and a team-leading 53 RBI.

While Keith Law is dubious on Mayer's chances at making his MLB debut this season, Law is far more optimistic on the odds that Red Sox fans see Kyle Teel this season:

"Teel looks like he’s very close to major-league-ready, as he’s hitting .305/.391/.470 in Double A in his first full year in pro ball with solid-average defense, and I don’t think there’s much projection here to make you want to hold off on promoting him to the big leagues."

Keith Law of The Athletic

Teel's strong 2024 campaign has seen his stock skyrocket. In Law's preseason rankings, Teel checked in as the No. 54 overall prospect. As we head into August, the catcher's play has earned him a climb up to No. 19 in Law's rankings.

Connor Wong has separated himself on the big league club as the clearcut primary catcher, and the team recently acquired Danny Jansen in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays.

With the trade for Jansen, came the corresponding move to designate another catcher, Reese McGuire, for assignment. As things currently stand, both backstops on Boston's roster are right-handed bats, so perhaps Teel is called up at some point to insert a left-handed bat into the mix.

Teel has done enough to earn his MLB debut by the end of the season. Hopefully, he will be rewarded by Craig Breslow and Co.
