1. Washington Commanders

New Washington Commanders principal owner Josh Harris acquired the team in July. Harris' ownership could signal an organizational shift with Washington, who are still licking the wounds of the catastrophic Dan Synder era. He reportedly might be more inclined to hire an experienced and established coach to build credibility. Belichick would obviously fit that bill.

It has been reported that a potential trade negotiation could also be mediated by the relationship between Harris and Jonathan Kraft. The two attended Harvard Business School together.

Belichick is obsessed with the history of the game, and the opportunity to return the NFL's sixth-oldest team to prominence might be an attractive endeavor. Washington hasn't won a Super Bowl since 1991, and like Carolina, has been one of the worst-run organizations in recent memory. If Belichick brought a Lombardi Trophy back to the nation's capital, the Brady/Belichick debate would take a fascinating turn.

Ron Rivera has a 26-35-1 record since taking over the Commanders in 2020 and is expected to be cut loose after this season. The general manager position is expected to be open as well.

Washington commands the number one spot on this list for four main reasons. First, Belichick's love for the history of the game makes it a desirable landing spot. Second, potential trade negotiations between the Kraft's and another ownership group are most likely to succeed in Washington. Third, the team will almost undoubtedly have a head coaching and general manager vacancy, which allows Belichick to assume the level of power and control that he held for so many years in New England. Lastly, owner Josh Harris' status as new kid on the block could encourage him to make a major splash. Hiring Bill Belichick would certainly do so.

Simply, the Commanders are a perfect storm to land Bill Belichick in 2024.
