5 Patriots Most Likely to Be Inactive vs. Commanders in Week 9
By Tyler Maher
2. Will Grier
After two months of chaos at the quarterback position, the Patriots finally seem to have figured out their QB depth chart. Mac Jones is locked in as the starter, of course, while Bailey Zappe has settled in as the backup.
Meanwhile, Will Grier has been the team's emergency backup QB the last two weeks. That mean while he's technically inactive, he'd still be able to play if Jones and Zappe both got hurt or ejected.
Barring another shakeup this week, expect that to be the case again this week. While Grier is still relatively new to the organization after coming aboard in late September, he's picked things up pretty quickly and has earned positive reviews from New England's coaching staff.
Grier drew similar praise during his time with the Dallas Cowboys while backing up Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush, too. The Patriots still seemingly prefer to have Zappe backing up Jones for the time being, however, although that could change at a moment's notice given the volatility at the position this year.
