5 Pending Free Agents Patriots Must Re-Sign This Offseason

When it comes to this year's pending free agents, the New England Patriots must do what it takes to re-sign these five players.

4. Mike Onwenu, RT/RG

Few pending Patriots free agents are as important as Mike Onwenu.

In a season where the majority of New England's offensive line was marred by injuries, Onwenu was a constant presence. The former Michigan Wolverine played a total of 850 offensive snaps across 15 starts while only allowing 23 pressures (3 sacks, 2 QB hits, 18 hurries) while taking four penalties.

Again, if the Patriots are bringing in a new rookie QB for next season, having Onwenu patrolling the O-line makes a ton of sense. He's been one of the better blockers since being drafted 182nd overall in 2020, averaging a PFF pass block grade of 73.4 over the last four seasons. Having a reliable protector like him could make a positive difference regarding the next signal-caller's development.

After seeing the importance of a strong/healthy offensive line last season, the Patriots can't afford to let Onwenu walk.
