5 Red Sox on Thin Ice This Offseason

If the Red Sox want to make the playoffs in 2024, these five players on thin ice must turn things around.

5. Rob Refsnyder

A weak end to the 2023 MLB season makes it tough to justify Rob Refsnyder's spot in the Red Sox lineup.

Sure, the 32-year-old veteran played well defensively, but he brought little to the table beyond that. After slashing .274/.392/.349 with 1 home run and 28 RBIs through his first 63 games of the season, Refsnyder only slashed .179/.292/.232 in the final 26 games to end the campaign.

Refsnyder's disappointing numbers look even worse when you consider he's someone who Cora occasionally turns to at DH or as a pinch-hitter. Given that he was only on pace for 2 HRs in 162 games compared to 17 last season, Red Sox fans have every right to be fed up.

Refsnyder is still valuable defensively, but his disastrous end to the season makes it tough to keep him in the batting order. With this being his last offseason with arbitration eligibility, I wouldn't be surprised if Boston moves him in favor of a more reliable bench bat.
