The 2024 MLB regular season is winding down, meaning this fall's postseason is nearly upon us. Unfortunately, the Boston Red Sox are projected to miss the postseason for the fifth time since winning the 2018 World Series due to inconsistent play across the board throughout the last six months.

The MLB offseason is the time for change and there's no doubt that we'll see faces come and go from Boston. While the majority of the Red Sox roster will likely return for the 2025 season, others are likely finishing up their final games with the organization. In other words, this weekend's series against the Tampa Bay Rays will be certain players' final series at Fenway Park.

Here are five Red Sox who are playing their final home series in Boston this weekend.

1. Nick Pivetta, RHP

Nick Pivetta has been a constant presence in the Red Sox's starting rotation since he joined the team during the 2020 MLB season. He's started in 106 of his 130 appearances since then, meaning it's hard to imagine the group without his name in the mix.

Having said that, Pivetta's time in Boston could be nearing its end.

Pivetta has hardly been a difference-maker this season, going 6-11 with a 4.21 ERA in 26 games (25 starts). Although those are far from the worst numbers and he's capable of pitching gems every now and then, it's worth noting that the 31-year-old Canadian hurler has only led the Red Sox to one victory in eight starts since the beginning of August.

Given that Pivetta isn't getting any younger, we've likely already seen the best that he has to offer. He still has enough gas to bounce around the Majors for the rest of his career, however, he isn't good enough for the Red Sox to award him a big payday when he hits free agency this offseason.

Unless he's willing to return for pennies on the dollar, chances are Pivetta's time in Boston will be over shortly.
