5. Chris Martin, RHP

In a season where inconsistencies have plagued the Red Sox, Chris Martin has been a constant presence in the bullpen. The 6-foot-8 hurler has been one of the American League's top relievers as he's pitched to a 3.61 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings across 43 appearances.

Like others on this list, Martin will become a free agent this winter and could look to end his career elsewhere. MassLive.com's Christopher Smith reported earlier this month that the veteran reliever plans to retire at the end of the 2025 MLB season and it wouldn't be shocking if he hopes to end his career with a World Series contender.

While the Red Sox would love to have Martin return, there's a good chance that the club won't be competing for a title next year. Between ownership's refusal to spend money and a highly competitive American League, Boston could still be on the playoff bubble this time next season.

If the Red Sox can convince Martin that they'll be in the 2025 World Series mix, a return is possible (albeit a long shot). If not, he'll likely be warming up in another club's bullpen next year.
