4. JaMycal Hasty, RB

New England had serious issues on the ground in 2023, finishing 26th in yardage with 1,627. They had a capable running back in Rhamondre Stevenson but their lack of ability in the passing game meant defenses could focus on shutting him down.

Stevenson still managed 619 yards in 12 games but had just 4.0 yards per attempt. He was still more effective than Ezekiel Elliott, who had 642 yards but averaged just 3.5 per rush. Elliott wasn't re-signed and is back with the Dallas Cowboys. Stevenson, on the other hand, is back and just landed a sizable extension. He and the Patriots agreed to a new deal worth $36 million over four seasons.

In addition to Stevenson, the Patriots also signed Antonio Gibson in free agency. The former Washington Commander is capable as both a runner and receiver and should be an upgrade over Elliott. He could also make JaMycal Hasty expendable.

Undrafted out of Baylor, Hasty spent two years with the Dan Francisco 49ers. He was waived ahead of the 2021 season and the Jacksonville Jaguars claimed him. He then spent the entire 2022 campaign and three games in 2023 with the Jags before being released again. The Patriots claimed him this time but he hardly saw the field.

Hasty appeared in two games and had just 10 snaps — all on special teams. There's not much depth behind their top two running backs, which could help Hasty stick with the team but right now, it feels as though he's someone who will miss the cut.
