9. Kyle Barraclough
While the 2023 season was filled with lows for Red Sox fans, fewer gaffes were bigger than the one that happened on Aug. 28.
In a must-win game against the Houston Astros, Boston entered the sixth inning with a 4-3 lead. Reliever Kyle Barraclough was tasked with keeping the lead, which proved to be too big of an ask. He proceeded to allow 10 earned runs on 11 hits over 4 1/3 innings, playing a key role in Boston eventually losing 13-5.
Barraclough was promptly outrighted to Triple-A and didn't see another appearance for the rest of the campaign.
With only 21 relief appearances over the last three MLB seasons, it's become clear that Barraclough isn't a big-league hurler anymore. He's been declining since being traded out of Miami in 2019 and likely won't get a second wind given that he turns 34 in May.
Unless Breslow sees something inside the ex-2012 seventh-rounder that I don't, his time with the Red Sox is likely over.
