Asante Samuel's Tom Brady-'Terrible' Patriots Hot Take is His Worst Yet

Asante Samuel needs to start keeping his Patriots thoughts to himself.

Asante Samuel is no stranger to running his mouth about the Patriots since retiring, but his most recent comments really solidify something that's become increasingly clear: we should all just ignore him.

Unable to be taken seriously by any sports media, Samuel had to go to TMZ to fire off his latest hot take, and it was as ridiculous as you'd think:

Samuel asserts that not only should the "terrible" New England Patriots go out and re-sign Tom Brady, but that they'd win the Super Bowl if they did.

Is the Patriots offense struggling? Of course. Does Mac Jones need to be replaced? Almost certainly.

But there's a massive leap from those things being true to "46-year-old Tom Brady who has not been preparing to play another NFL season makes this team a Super Bowl contender."

The thought is almost so dumb that I don't want to give it the time of day to outline why it's dumb, but I just can't help but taking the bait sometimes.

First, the Patriots are not just a quarterback away from being Super Bowl contenders. This defense is good, for sure, but especially with Matthew Judon and Christian Gonzalez out, it's not a defense that will singlehandedly carry a team.

Second, it's more than just a missing quarterback that's crushing this offense. The Patriots neutered the receiving corps this offseason and the offensive line has been brutal. Putting a 46-year-old in the pocket isn't going to suddenly create time to throw or get anyone open.

Third, why the heck would Tom Brady be the answer? Like, I get why he's the name to say if you want media attention, but if you're being serious?

Brady couldn’t make the Super Bowl in 2021 or even the playoffs in 2022 with a Bucs roster that looked pretty similar to the one he won a Super Bowl with in 2020. Those roster also looked better than the current Patriots.

He had one of the least efficient passing seasons of his career in 2022. Now he’s spent the offseason not training like an NFL player, since he isn’t one.

And so with no training he’s supposed to somehow perform better than he did last year, and carry a worse roster to more success?

Sports media outlets have already started ignoring Samuel's attempts to stay relevant, and now it would be great if TMZ would follow suit so that we don't have to hear from him anymore.
