Bailey Zappe Starts Minicamp on Predictably Awful Note
The New England Patriots are one of the teams that have experienced so much change this offseason. It started at the top of the organization with Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf taking control of the team.
It trickled down to the quarterback position as the Pats brought in both Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye into town.
With minicamps taking place in New England, Bailey Zappe is off to a bad start, which doesn't bode well for him.
Patriots News: Bailey Zappe Has A Terrible First Rep in Minicamp
The quarterback rotation has Brissett taking first-team reps, Maye taking second-team reps, and Zappe firmly sitting in that third spot.
The Western Kentucky product is looking to move up on the depth chart but his play at practice didn't help.
Mark Daniels of MassLive.com was present at practice on Monday and reported that Zappe threw a pick-6 to safety Kyle Dugger in his first 11-on-11 rep of the day.
Over the past couple of practices, Maye has firmly taken that QB2 role and Zappe's play on the practice field isn't benefitting him.
Despite being in New England for two seasons and starting eight games for the Pats, his days with the team look to be limited.
In six games last year, Zappe completed 59% of his passes for 1,272 yards with six touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Now the Pats have a quarterback room that consists of two rookies in Maye and Joe Milton, a veteran in Brissett, and Zappe.
Nonetheless, Zappe's play on the field isn't building his case of him making the final 53-man roster.
