Bill Belichick Received Shocking Job Offer After Patriots Exit
By Ryan Bunton
Bill Belichick spent six seasons as the defensive coordinator of the New York Giants from 1985-1990, winning two Super Bowls calling plays for the Giants on defense.
After failing to land a head coaching job during this offseason hiring cycle, Bill Belichick apparently had an offer on the table to take a defensive coordinator position. Which team offered this? You ask. Well, the Philadelphia Waterdogs of the Premier Lacrosse League.
Paul Rabil, a former star lacrosse player for the Boston Cannons, is the president and co-founder on the PLL. He revealed that Bill Tierney, the head coach of the Waterdogs, offered Belichick a job as his defensive coordinator. The legendary head coach of the Patriots evidently declined, opting for cushier television gigs.
Belichick has famously had an affinity for lacrosse. Belichick was a captain of the Wesleyan University lacrosse team, and his son Steve Belichick played lacrosse at Rutgers. Belichick's daughter, Amanda, is the current head women's lacrosse coach at Holy Cross, a position she has held since 2015.
The PLL was founded in 2018 and features eight teams. The league followed a touring model until this season, when it began assigning teams to cities. The Waterdogs have found a home in Philadelphia. The Eagles were rumored to be interested in Bill Belichick last offseason after Nick Sirianni oversaw a collapse under his watch. Could Belichick still end up in Philadelphia - but with the NFL team?
