Bill Belichick made his case to be the greatest coach in NFL history during his 24 seasons in Foxborough. As the head coach of the New England Patriots, he won six Super Bowls and built the most decorated dynasty of all time. However, there is still one record the 72-year-old is pursuing. Belichick is still 26 wins behind Don Shula to become the winningest NFL coach ever.

Therefore, it is widely expected that Belichick will return to coaching next season. Where that will be, however, remains the biggest question. One NFL insider thinks that it might be with one of his former teams.

Giants beat writer Pat Leonard reported on Friday that if the team were to move on from Brian Daboll, they would have Belichick atop their list of potential candidates.

NFL Rumors: Giants Will Turn to Bill Belichick If Brian Daboll Fails Again

This is not too surprising. Daboll is already on the hot seat despite winning the NFL Coach of the Year award in his first year in New York. In 2023, the Giants were a disaster on both ends, but especially offensively. They were fortunate to go 6-11. A similar performance this season could signal the end of the Daboll era in New York.

It also makes sense for the Giants to pursue Belichick as their next head coach. He worked there between 1979 and 1990, winning two Super Bowls in that span. Before he got his first head coaching opportunity with Cleveland in 1991, he was the defensive coordinator with the Giants.

The Cowboys and the Eagles have been rumored as potential Belichick suitors if things didn't go according to the plan there. Those teams would obviously give Belichick a better chance to win and should be preferred by the legendary coach, but it's not clear whether those positions will be available next offseason.
