The World Champion Boston Celtics don't really need to add to their roster, but they will likely do just that this week when they make two selections in the 2024 NBA Draft.

The World Champion Boston Celtics don't really need to add to their roster, but they will likely do just that this week when they make two selections in the 2024 NBA Draft.

According to the Boston Globe's Gary Washburn, President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens anticipates that the Celtics will select players with their two picks, #30 and #54, as opposed to trying to swing any trades.

The 30th pick is Boston's own selection and the final pick of the first round. Number 54 was acquired along with the draft rights to Jordan Walsh in 2023 in exchange for the draft rights to Colby Jones.

While most of the championship roster will return for 2025, there will be some opportunities for this year's draft picks to make the team. Luke Kornet and Xavier Tillman are free agents, and Oshae Brissett has opted out of his contract as well, though he could return on a new deal.

If these draft picks do turn into rotational players for next year's Celtics, they will be among the only homegrown players currently on the team. Besides Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, the key pieces of the 2024 championship were acquired via trade, including Derrick White, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, and Jrue Holliday. Only Payton Pritchard and JD Davison remain on the team from the past six years of Celtics draft picks.

Will the Celtics try to draft some big men to replace the potential loss of Kornet, Tillman and Brissett, or will they look for another playmaking wing to back up Tatum and Brown?

Our Ryan Bunton took a stab at prognosticating who the Celtics will take with their two picks.

The 2024 NBA Draft will take place June 26 and 27th. The first round will air in primetime tomorrow night live from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, while the second round will be broadcast Thursday from ESPN's Seaport District Studios in Manhattan.
