Celtics Star Hints at Injury Return for NBA Finals
By Ryan Bunton
Boston Celtics' star Kristaps Porzingis, who has not played since April 29 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the Miami Heat with a calf injury, has offered an update on his availability heading into the NBA Finals. The Finals are set to start June 9, giving Porzingis an advantageous amount of time off.
Porzingis' post may appear innocuous to those of us not fluent in Latvian, but the modern gift of Google Translate has brought a hopeful update to Boston fans.
Skipping over injury reports and updates from NBA insiders, Porzingis himself took to Twitter/X with a promising line: "I'll be back in line soon. See you in the finals". Boston completed their sweep of the Indiana Pacers on Monday in the Eastern Conference Finals to secure their second NBA Finals berth in the last three seasons.
Porzingis, who was acquired in an offseason trade from the Washington Wizards, was an instrumental part of the Celtics' historic regulars season. The 7'2" star averaged 20.1 points per game while adding 7.2 rebounds per game. Those averages were good enough for third and second on the team, respectively.
The Celtics will face either the Dallas Mavericks or the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Finals. The Mavericks currently lead the Timberwolves 3-1.
FanDuel Sportsbook have the Celtics as massive -230 favorites to win the NBA Championship at this point, which gives them a whopping 69.7% implied probability.
