After a 17-13 start to the 2024 season, Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow might be feeling a little better about the roster that he has assembled. Now, Breslow is apparently also turning his attention inwards to Boston's baseball operations department.

Per Alex Speier of The Boston Globe, the team has "hired the Sportsology Group to conduct an audit of the organization and offer recommendations to Breslow about potential changes in the team’s baseball operations." Per Speier, the audit request originated with Breslow, and not with ownership - an interesting detail.

The Sportsology Group has also conducted audits with the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Mavericks, and Washington Wizards.

After Chaim Bloom was fired and Breslow was brought in, there was essentially no turnover within Boston's front office. Also, it is not a well-kept secret that Breslow was far from the team's first choice as CBO.

So 30 games into his tenure, does Breslow now have unchecked power? Obviously, only the Red Sox truly know the scope of the audit and how much weight the new CBO carries, but it is definitely a dynamic to keep an eye on.

Pete Abraham, also of The Boston Globe, provided some sarcastic insight into how the consulting firm's audit could unfold.

The results of the audit will undoubtedly generate far more fireworks than the announcement of bringing on the audit firm. Heads could roll in Boston's front office, or perhaps Sportsology essentially renders a clean bill of health.

Will this result in some seismic changes, or will it be a giant nothing burger? It will be an interesting development to watch.
