Rookie QB Drake Maye absolutely snubbed Tom Brady with a controversial quote following the New England Patriots' Week 3 blowout loss to the New York Jets.

The New England Patriots looked completely lost on Thursday night when they fell 24-3 to the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. The Patriots simply couldn't get anything going offensively in a game that saw rookie quarterback Drake Maye make his NFL debut in relief for veteran QB Jacoby Brissett, who was sacked five times.

Maye didn't accomplish much in his limited showing, going 4-of-8 in the pocket for 22 passing yards while being sacked twice. While his performance wasn't much to write home about — good or bad — it was his post-game comments that completely stunned the Patriots fanbase.

Patriots News: Drake Maye Snubs Tom Brady for Aaron Rodgers

Following the Patriots' abysmal loss, Maye was spotted remaining on the field, leaving many to wonder what he was doing. According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, the 2024 third-overall pick said that he was "waiting for the GOAT" in reference to Jets QB Aaron Rodgers, who was busy interviewing with Amazon.

Did you hear that? That's the sound of the Patriots' fanbase collectively throwing up.

Cheering for certain athletes is subjective and a person's favorite player isn't always the best at their sport. Nobody is faulting Maye for cheering for Rodgers while growing up, however, the fact that he called him the "GOAT" while wearing a Patriots jersey is absolutely revolting.

Anybody involved with the Patriots — either as a fan, coach, or player — knows that Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback ever to lace up cleats. The 15-time Pro Bowl gunslinger ranks first in NFL history regarding passing yards, completions, and touchdown passes by a wide margin.

That's without even mentioning his league-leading seven Super Bowl victories, six of which came during his time with New England.

That isn't to say that Rodgers isn't an all-time great, though. The Jets signal-caller has the second-most NFL MVP wins in history with four and is a top-10 QB when it comes to the majority of all-time passing stats. The issue is that Rodgers' one Super Bowl ring prevents him from even being in a serious GOAT discussion.

Brady is further cemented as the greatest of all time when you consider that he went 4-2 against Rodgers during his career, which includes a victory in their lone playoff meeting.

Hopefully, Maye comes to his senses and doesn't make a similar mistake again. It's bad enough that he already likes Rodgers over Brady, however, it's made worse given that the former is now a member of the rival Jets.

For now, the Patriots will look to bounce back from their disastrous loss when they face the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4. It won't be an easy matchup, though, as FanDuel Sportsbook is currently projecting the Pats to be 9.5-point underdogs at Levi's Stadium.
