Ex-Patriots Wide Receiver Among First Cuts Ahead of Roster Deadline
By Jovan Alford
Teams around the NFL are getting a jump start on cutting down their rosters from 90 to 53 players with the preseason wrapping up on Sunday night. All 32 teams have until Tuesday to get their rosters down to 53 players before Week 1 of the regular season begins.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are among some of the teams that have begun the arduous task of cutting their roster down to 53 players. On Sunday, the team released several players, including a former New England Patriots player.
Greg Auman of FOX Sports reported that wide receiver Raleigh Webb, who joined Tampa Bay’s practice squad late last season was waived on Sunday.
Webb began his career with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022, where he appeared in two games. After that, the 6-foot-2 wide receiver was signed by the New England Patriots on Oct. 19, 2022.
The former Citadel wideout appeared in 10 games for the Patriots as he predominantly played special teams (49 percent of snaps). Webb was waived by New England last summer and was signed a couple of days later by the Miami Dolphins.
Webb spent the majority of the 2023 season on Miami’s practice squad before getting released in November. However, the former Patriots wide receiver signed a futures contract with the Bucs in January.
The 26-year-old wide receiver didn’t make many plays in the preseason as he only had one catch for 19 yards. The former Pats wideout will try to garner some workouts and land on another team’s practice squad before Week 1.
