Former Celtics Legend Slams Kyrie Irving
By Cem Yolbulan
The Boston Celtics are about to hang their 18th championship banner. They are up 3-0 against the Dallas Mavericks and they have looked like one of the most dominant teams of all time throughout the playoffs. The NBA Finals have looked as lopsided as any in recent memory.
One of the aspects that makes this win even sweeter for Celtics fans is the fact that it's coming against Kyrie Irving. Boston and Irving have had a tumultuous relationship ever since the All-Star guard left the Celtics in 2019 despite promising to stay for a long time.
One Celtics legend is enjoying the Celtics getting one over Irving. Bob Cousy, the 95-year-old icon, didn't miss the opportunity to throw some shade at Kyrie. According to the Boston Globe, Cousy called Kyrie a non-superstar who has been exposed by the Celtics.
"The Celtics have exposed Kyrie Irving as not quite a superstar. He has been severely subdued. They’re not even trapping him a lot. They’re doing it one-on-one. Kyrie’s working his ass off and they’re still stopping most of his stuff. He’s no longer in the superstar category. You’ve got to function in the playoffs to determine where you are in the hierarchy."

Irving has struggled so far in the Finals after having a solid postseason. In three games against Boston, Irving shot 40% from the field, and 29% from three, averaging 21 points and 3.3 assists in 41 minutes per game.
The Celtics have an excellent group of defenders to throw at Irving. Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Jaylen Brown have all done a wonderful job limiting Kyrie's effectiveness. That trio provides size, strength, and athleticism that Kyrie has found difficult to overcome.
Bob Cousy has previously mentioned how desperately he wants another Celtics title. It looks like he is about to get his wish and Kyrie Irving is not going to be able to stand in the way.
