Former Patriots Receiver Joins Bill O'Brien's Staff in Boston College

After his second stint with the New England Patriots ended miserably, Bill O'Brien moved back to college football. As the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Bill Belichick last year, the Patriots offense was a complete disaster, ranking in the bottom-three in the NFL.
Following Belichick's departure, O'Brien was hired by Ohio State but his tenure there only lasted for a few weeks. After Jeff Hafley became the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, Boston College hired O'Brien as their head coach.
Since then, O'Brien has been targeting a few former Patriots to join his coaching staff. He hired former Patriots tight end coach Will Lawing as his offensive coordinator and now has a former player joining him.
Former Patriots WR Tre Nixon Joining Bill O'Brien's Staff
Former Patriots wide receiver Tre Nixon, who announced his retirement from the NFL earlier this summer, posted on social media that he is joining O'Brien.
Nixon was not only the 242nd-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but he was also Ernie Adams' last-ever draft selection. He had dealt with a shoulder injury in his senior season, limiting him to four games and pushing his draft stock down.
The wide receiver out of UCF was supposed to be the first player to wear Rob Gronkowski's No. 87 jersey but he failed to make an appearance in the NFL. However, his paths crossed with O'Brien during the 2023 season when he was a member of the practice squad.
Nixon used the caption "trying something new" and the hashtag "Coach Nix" in his announcement. Let's hope he finds more success in coaching than he did in his playing days with the Patriots.
