Patriots DT Trysten Hill, entering his second season with the organization, suffered an apparent injury during mandatory minicamp.

Local reporter Zack Cox noted that Hill was being looked at by head trainer Jim Whalen with a hand or wrist-related ailment. Hill appeared in only one game in the 2023 season and is fighting for a roster spot, so he can ill afford a significant injury that'd keep him on the sidelines.

Originally a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft for the Dallas Cowboys, Hill's career has been mired in injury and inconsistency as he tries to deliver on the promise he showed as a star defender at UCF.

After playing for Dallas for parts of four years, Hill joined the Arizona Cardinals before coming to New England. He's projected to be a depth piece or perhaps even a practice squad player, though he could be a casualty in favor of an impressive undrafted rookie as Jerod Mayo rebuilds the team.

Boston radio host Alex Barth said it looked like QB Jacoby Brissett stepped on Hill's hand during a pass-rush rep, though an exact injury is not yet known.

For Hill, this year represents an opportunity to rebuild his value and prove he belongs on an NFL roster. During his final year at UCF, Hill recorded 10.5 tackles for loss and three sacks to rise up draft boards but hasn't reached those heights at the professional level .

He's got just 39 career tackles and 1.5 sacks. Even still, there could be a role for Hill in a new-look Patriots defense. Provided the injury doesn't prove to be too serious, the coaching staff will be closely monitoring the 26 year old throughout the summer to determine if his future is indeed in New England.
