It was somewhat surprising that the Celtics held on to this pick, considering their title-ready roster and the objectively low odds of selecting a contributor at the back end of the first round of one of the most-maligned draft classes in recent memory. But, when the dust settled, Boston chose Scheierman, a 6'6" sharpshooter who flashed the playmaking and rebounding chops to crack the rotation early.

You can find my full write-up on Scheierman here, but for a synopsis: I like the pick. He'll be 24 when the season starts, and showed a level of maturity in college that should translate easily to the pros. Additionally, he brings a 39% 3PT to a team full of spacing, and showed enough of an off-the-dribble acumen to potentially develop into a creator.

Scheierman isn't perfect - he's not an NBA-ready defender just yet - and his shooting is probably as good as it's going to get at age 23. He'll have to gain some strength and continue to develop other areas of his game in order to succeed in the league; think Joe Ingles at best. Overall, though, he's a good pick for a team looking for an instant contributor, and he has the talent to become a really solid NBA player.
