Grading the Patriots' Offseason One Week In: What is the Plan in Foxborough?
Other Moves:
Pats re-sign WR Jalen Reagor to a one year, minimum contract
Not a ton to say here - Reagor was decent as a return man last year, but provides little on offense outside of the occasional end-around handoff. For a minimum contract, though, it's hard to find an issue here - maybe he can rediscover some of what made him a first-round pick in 2020.
Grade: B-
Pats release WR DeVante Parker
In a cost-cutting move, the Patriots parted ways with wideout DeVante Parker, eating $6.3 million in dead cap in the process. Parker has been disappointing throughout his time here, and his move will save New England some money, but I'm not sure I can give them a positive grade for failing to extract any value from Parker.
Grade: D+
Pats re-sign Anfernee Jennings to a three year, $12 million contract
Jennings had his best year as a Patriot in 2023, recording 49 tackles and starting 14 games. He's not a flashy linebacker - he rarely records sacks, and he's not a premier cover backer, but he's a solid, run-stopping linebacker who can be relied upon to play the majority of snaps. $4 million AAV isn't mind-blowing, but it's not bad, and Jennings can easily make that look like a steal with a good year or two.
Grade: B+
