Here's How the Patriots Avoid Being Eliminated From Playoffs in Week 13
By Joe Summers
The New England Patriots have a big matchup ahead with the Los Angeles Chargers and hope to stave off playoff elimination in NFL Week 13.
Despite sitting at 2-9, the Patriots are not yet eliminated from the playoff race. They're not far off, though, and need a strong performance to stay mathematically alive.
Let's take a look at the scenarios below.
Patriots Playoff Scenarios Week 13
It's a bit complicated, but the gist of it is that the Patriots can avoid elimination with a win over the Chargers.
If New England loses, the team will need some help to stay alive. In that scenario, the Patriots would be eliminated if Pittsburgh, Indianapolis and Cleveland all won.
In other scenarios, Patriots fans should also root against the Bengals and Texans. It gets a bit complicated, but essentially New England needs at least one of those five teams to lose if the Chargers prevail on Sunday.
The Patriots will take on the Steelers in Week 14 and the Chiefs in Week 15, so they'll need to keep winning to maintain hope in a crowded AFC Playoff Picture. For now, the organization needs to be focused on escaping this Sunday with a victory to maintain hope.
Of course, the other side of this coin is that of course the Patriots won't make the playoffs regardless of whether it's still mathematically possible. And with a shot at Caleb Williams or Drake Maye on the line, getting eliminated now might be the best thing for the franchise.
