It's a new era in New England for the first time in 24 years. The Pats have Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf now calling the shots and they took the past couple of months to shape the roster how they see fit.

It started in free agency when they signed QB Jacoby Brissett to a one-year, $8 million deal worth up to $12 million with incentives.

Then they snagged Drake Maye with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Pats look at Brissett as the mentor with Maye being the franchise signal caller down the line.

Rookie minicamps took place from May 10-12 and people around the organization got their first look at Maye.

Brissett spoke with the media on Wednesday and gave his first impressions of the 21-year-old signal caller.

Patriots News: Jacoby Brissett Gives Positive Endorsement on Drake Maye

Brissett said, "He has a lot of talent. He can make all the throws. He wants to learn football. He wants to get better. That’s what you want, in not only your quarterback but anybody on the team."

He continued by saying, "I’m excited to work with him. I remember when I was following Tom [Brady] around; anywhere I could learn, and he’s already texting me about plays and ‘how do I think about this’ and cadence — all the little nuances of being in this position at this level.”

Reading this will certainly put a smile on the faces of Patriots fans. Maye seems eager to learn and is taking the necessary steps to hit the ground running in his rookie year.

Maye has the physical tools needed to thrive in the league but the mental aspect is the biggest hurdle for rookies entering the NFL.

The former UNC standout is making it his mission to learn as much from Brissett and has impressed the veteran quarterback already.
