The New England Patriots finally got some real action on Thursday when they played against the Carolina Panthers in the first week of preseason.

There was a lot of excitement for the fans and players to get some reps after an offseason full of change.

Although starters didn't see much action, this was the first opportunity to impress the coaching staff but one position group needs some work. And that isn't the best news for Drake Maye.

Patriots News: New England Bringing in Offensive Line Help After Preseason Opener

According to Mike Reiss of ESPN, Mayo said the Patriots are going to bring in multiple offensive linemen for workouts today. He added that the unit is "under construction".

That isn't what you want to hear with the regular season a month away. Mayo continued by saying backup interior lineman Jake Andrews suffered an injury in the offseason that forced him to undergo surgery and landed him on IR.

Earlier this week, there was some smoke that New England would sit Maye due to the shaky offensive line, but that wasn't the case.

"There had been some speculation that New England could sit Maye given the current state of the offensive line, but that will not be the case."

Nonetheless, having a questionable offensive line isn't what you want when you have a young signal-caller under center. In Chicago, Matt Eberflus stated the health of the offensive line would dictate Caleb Williams' playing time in the preseason.

Now the newest report coming from New England is a sign of concern. The Patriots may keep Maye on the bench instead of throwing him behind a bad offensive line.

The thing is, how much better can the offensive line improve in August? That's something we'll have to wait and see for.
