New Porzingis Injury Return Timeline Reveals Lengthy Absence Coming
The Boston Celtics are sitting atop the NBA world after a dominating 2023-24 season. They had a league-best 64-18 record and locked down the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. Boston continued their stellar play, going 16-3 in the playoffs en route to their 18th NBA championship.
Now as we head into the offseason, Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis is getting more information regarding his leg injury. Yesterday, it was reported that Porzingis was going to miss the start of the season but now the timeline has been revealed.
Celitcs News: Kristaps Porzingis Expected To Miss 5-6 Months
Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston reported that Porzingis is going to miss the next five to six months after undergoing surgery on a torn retinaculum and dislocated posterior tibialis tendon.
His injury happened in Game 2 of the NBA Finals after he collided with Dallas center Dereck Lively II. Porzingis missed Games 3 and 4 before giving it a go in Game 5 despite being hurt.
With the timeline now announced, Celtic fans shouldn't expect to see the 28-year back on the court until at least December to give him the full time to rehab.
Boston has arguably the deepest roster in the league led by two superstars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown to weather the storm.
The absence of Porzingis during the beginning of the season will likely make Boston more active in the frontcourt market. Both Luke Kornet and Xavier Tillman will become free agents if they are not re-signed by June 30. The Celtics could look to bring those guys back while also adding another body there.
Veteran center Al Horford is also slated to return for his 18th season so that provides Boston with another option.
Porzingis missing an extended period of time will be a big loss for Boston to start the year but they have the firepower to withstand it.
