Though no deals were made, the New England Patriots were mentioned in quite a few trade rumors leading up to the deadline. One player who had a ton of buzz around them was linebacker Josh Uche, and a report even claimed the upcoming free agent was nearly dealt to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Halloween.

However, conflicting new information has emerged on Uche trade talks.

ESPN's Dan Graziano said in a post-deadline column that "nothing ever got close to happening" in regards to an Uche deal. The insider noted New England had "some discussions" with other franchises, though the LB's recent injuries "scared some teams off."

It makes sense that prospective squads were a bit hesitant to put an aggressive offer on the table for the fourth-year pro. He dealt with a knee issue earlier in the year, and has now missed two straight games with a foot ailment.

Considering Uche is also slated to hit the open market this offseason, anyone hoping to add the talented pass-rusher could simply wait a few months and possibly acquire him for free, rather than giving up assets right now.

It remains to be seen how Uche and the Pats move forward. Trade talks are part of the business at the end of the day, though the fact there's been so many rumors about his possible departure might make things even more awkward down the stretch of this season.

Uche has taken a step back in 2023, posting just 2.0 sacks in six games after popping off for a career-high 11.5 sacks in 2022. While he may want to simply check out if he plans to leave New England, the fact teams are showing concerns about his health means he'll need to impress in the second half if he's to cash in as hoped in free agency.
