NFL Took Ridiculous Action Against Pats Standout After Incredible Week 1
By Jovan Alford
The New England Patriots had one of the most impressive wins in Week 1 on Sunday, defeating the Cincinnati Bengals, 16-10.
The Bengals had no answer for Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson (120 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries) or defensive end Keion White. The second-year pass rusher was unstoppable on Sunday as he had four tackles, three quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, and a forced fumble.
Patriots fans were caught off guard by White’s performance on Sunday as he only had one sack as a rookie last season. However, the NFL wasn’t caught off guard and issued a drug test to the young defender on Monday.
White posted a picture of the drug test notice from the league on Instagram saying, “The boys got me on my day off.”
It’s not a surprise to see the league take this action as it happens to many players throughout the season. However, it's a ridiculous action to take as White has been pegged as one of the breakout players on the defense this season.
That said, to issue a drug test after he destroyed the Bengals’ offensive line is funny as it's not impossible to think he doesn’t have a similar statline next week against the Seattle Seahawks.
Let’s just say White has 2.5 sacks again next Sunday against Seattle, will the league send the second-round pick another drug test? Pats fans hope that White can build off this tremendous Week 1 performance and fill in the void left by Matthew Judon, who was traded to the Atlanta Falcons last month.
