Week 18: Jets @ Patriots - Jan. 7

This was supposed to be the year the New York Jets finally took off. They went out and added Aaron Rodgers in a blockbuster trade and then brought over several of his targets from Green Bay. Sure, he seemed to suggest the players he had with the Packers held him back but he apparently still needed them to ensure he could run his offense in New York.

Unfortunately, we never got to see what that offense would look like. Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury on his first drive with the Jets and has been sidelined ever since. They've been starting Zach Wilson but his latest performance led to him being benched in favor of Tim Boyle.

That's a massive fall from grace for the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Wilson had hoped to have learned enough from the short time he had with Rodgers to revive his career but now, it appears to be on life support.

As for this matchup, the Patriots won 15-10 in Week 3 at MetLife Stadium. Wilson wasn't good in that one, going 18-of-36 for 157 yards and being sacked for a safety late in the game. But there's nothing that suggests Boyle will be much better.

In his five seasons in the NFL, Boyle — who was a backup to Rodgers for a couple of years in Green Bay — has 607 yards with three touchdowns and nine picks. He's made three starts, all in 2021 with the Lions, and lost all of them. If he's still the starter by this time (which is far from guaranteed) he will get one more loss to close out the season.

New England ends on a high note since they secure a win but going 5-12 isn't what Bill Belichick expected. From here, there will be a whole lot of questions to answer for this team as they enter uncharted territory.

Score Prediction: Patriots 23, Jets 9
Record: 5-12
