Patriots 7-Round Mock Draft 1.0: Building an Offense From Scratch

The New England Patriots are staring down a total rebuild this offseason, and that begins with an offense-heavy approach in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Round 5 (No. 135 Overall): Mohamed Kamara, EDGE, Colorado State

Okay, fun as loading up on weapons is, we can't ignore defense entirely. Keion White is the only New England edge defender under contract beyond the 2024 season, so that's a position that does need to be addressed.

Mohamed Kamara is a really interesting prospect because a lot of his measurables leave you wanting more. He's not overly tall. He's heavy for his height, and not in a "built out of pure muscle" kind of way. He's got short arms for an edge rusher.

But despite all of those deficiencies, he was tied for No. 4 in the nation with 14 sacks on the season. He also ranked No. 9 in hurries (39) and was tied for No. 3 in total pressures (64).

Pro Football Focus gave him a pass-rush grade of 90.7 on the year, which was the eighth-best mark for all edge defenders.

Maybe I'm stuck in Belichick-era thinking here, but how many times has one of the Patriots' diamonds in the rough been a guy who doesn't look the part of profile as a prototypical baller at his position?

Kamara is a proven producer, and he's no slouch in run defense either. If he had the measurables and athleticism to match his production, you're looking at a first-round pick. That's something I'll gamble on in the fifth any day.
